France Benoit is a policy advisor turned filmmaker who then decided to become a farmer. After a Masters in Polar Studies, she moved to Yellowknife in 1989 where she soon started to grow roots which run deeper and deeper as the years go by. France continues to live self-sufficiently in the boreal forest outside of Yellowknife, pumping her water from the lake, heating her home from wood and drawing her energy from the sun.
